August · The thread that ties brothers and sisters.

Raksha Bandhan, or Rakhi, falls on the full moon of Shravana, in August. Sisters tie a rakhi, a sacred thread, on their brothers' wrists and pray for their wellbeing; brothers promise to protect them and give a gift in return.
Also called: Rakhi, Rakshabandhan.
Families and the wider community celebrate the bond between brothers and sisters together, with sweets and a shared meal.
The Grande Prairie Hindu Association (GPHA), known locally as the GP Hindu Temple, GP Mandir, Grande Prairie Hindu Temple (Mandir) and Peace Temple (Peace Mandir), celebrates Raksha Bandhan with Hindu families and friends of every background from Grande Prairie, Peace River, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada. Everyone is welcome.
Dates for the next Raksha Bandhan celebration are posted on the home page as soon as they are set. Members hear first, and can register before tickets open to everyone.
