GP Hindu Temple · Grande Prairie Mandir
Feb – Mar · A night of prayer, fasting and devotion to Shiva.

Maha Shivratri, "the great night of Shiva", falls on the fourteenth night of the dark half of Phalguna, in February or March. Devotees fast, keep vigil through the night and offer abhishek (bathing of the Shiva lingam) with water, milk and bilva leaves.
Also called: Mahashivratri, Shivratri, Maha Shivaratri, Shivaratri.
The community gathers for puja, abhishek, bhajan and the chanting of Om Namah Shivaya, with prasad shared afterwards.
The Grande Prairie Hindu Association (GPHA), known locally as the GP Hindu Temple, GP Mandir, Grande Prairie Hindu Temple (Mandir) and Peace Temple (Peace Mandir), celebrates Maha Shivratri with Hindu families and friends of every background from Grande Prairie, Peace River, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada. Everyone is welcome.
Dates for the next Maha Shivratri celebration are posted on the home page as soon as they are set. Members hear first, and can register before tickets open to everyone.
